This is the beginning of a dark, brutal, contemporary paranormal, mystery series, not meant for the usual PG-going crowd. This book series makes no attempt to pull its punches as it explores the world of the supernatural, delving into everything from elves to demons to vampires and more.

This first book follows the story of a young, orphaned witch named Staysa as she wakes up to find herself captured with no memory of why. It follows her as she goes where few have been and where none have returned unscathed, where the rule of law is nonexistent, and the price of failure can be worse than death itself. It follows this desperate but determined witch as she fights to return home.

I loved the playful banter and sarcastic wit. Gave me several amused moments. I have also recommended this book to my daughter.

To Hell Back The Devil Game Book 1 eBook D E Moatz Belle Burnell Sandra Moatz Reviews

I found it most interesting as it held my attention which is usually hard to do. I hope his next book is as good as this one was.
I will start with the fact that i read this book straight through with very little breaks. Its gritty, violent and fun, a very nice change from the PG feeling most stories like this have taken these days. This book starts off somewhat confusing and disjointed, but one quickly realizes that the character (Staysa Fear) the story is told from the eyes of is having a little trouble with memory and isn't in the best situation. But the fast pace soon leads us to exploring a refreshing take on Hell as an actual place, with demons and monsters not mindless creatures but intelligent albeit different beings. I found myself following the story shrouded in mystery and always wanting to know more data. Which is supplied, but in fragments making me feel as a reader that I was with Staysa traveling along trying to unravel the mystery with her. Staysa is a strange but very likable character, full of witty teenage humor and just the right amount of luck in the face of terrifying monsters and physical abuse. The other characters are brimming with history and life and more and more I wanted to know more about everyone and everything in the world. It is a different take on life as a girl, raised to combat the supernatural monsters once thought to be myth. I very much look forward the following installments of the series and highly recommend this book to anyone who likes gritty supernatural stories. Definitely a writer and story with the potential to be on par with great authors and series like Jim Butcher and The Dresden Files.
If I could give no stars i would. Did not like the story or the main character.
I haven't read for pleasure in over 10 years, but I decided to give this one a shot. I'm more than half way into it now and I'm diggin it. For the first time in a decade I've found myself looking for downtime to read.
I give it five stars because I really want to read the rest of it . There was a certain amount of confusion since the girl has amnesia and you don't know what's going on half the time but it was engaging and I definitely want to know what happens next!
I loved the playful banter and sarcastic wit. Gave me several amused moments. I have also recommended this book to my daughter.
